ATOPOS

Special Project for TheDrawing Hall curated By L. Longobardi

DESCRIPTION

Atopos is the site-specific project designed by Eugenio Tibaldi for The Drawing Hall. It arises from drawing as a private moment and, changing, becomes an installation thanks to a collective action involving the community of a small provincial town.

At the basis of his work we find two tools: drawing and watercolour, whose daily practice acts as a lever, prising open his personal imaginary world and bringing it into direct relation – and contradiction – with reality. ATOPOS is the result of this concoction: composed of dozens of watercolours that Tibaldi has grafted like enzymes onto the pictorial substratum of the ‘leftovers’ of our homes (those pictures, paintings, prints that, in a certain sense, have failed and we no longer deem worthy of our walls), it shows us drawing for what it is, that is, an untamable beast, disrespectful yet capable of letting the artist exist in the imagination of the other.
