Using enchantment, Eugenio Tibaldi reconstructs the world, “our world,” in the awareness of belonging to a specific time and place. With his astonishing imaginative ability, he gives life to sited projects that question specific contexts and issues. Whether dealing with huge installations or series of drawings, a mindful definition of form transpires, a compositional intertwining based on deliberately unstable but perfectly calibrated balances. The melting pot of apparently discordant signs, materials and elements – texts, drawings, collages, photographs, assemblages, sounds, lights – constitutes the artist’s varied compositional grammar, held together with great harmony. Created through layering and references, the works visualize Tibaldi’s idea of society, offering a merciless gaze on the human race to call the viewers to an overturn of the present.
If the suburbs are the places chosen early on by Eugenio Tibaldi to investigate society, it is the margins of the human soul that have marked his practice since 2020. He chooses marginal points of view, from which he observes what concerns us, capturing latent aspects through which he conveys collective visual epiphanies. He leads us to zoom in on things with child-like wonder. If it is true that we are always placed, unavoidably, in a ‘here and now,’ in a place and a time, it is also true that thanks to experiencing art we push ourselves into an elsewhere from which we can imagine possible worlds.
